Georgia State University – B.A., Biological Sciences
Hi, I’m Shiyel, a 4th-year student studying Biological Sciences at Georgia State University. I enjoy tutoring because I have a passion for Science and Math and love to assist others. Throughout my time in college, I have had the opportunity to tutor several of my peers in a variety of subjects. As a result, I learned how to adjust the ways in which I communicate information to my students to match their differing learning styles. I work to effectively communicate concepts to students in a way that they will easily understand. I incorporate a variety of engaging activities whenever possible to keep students entertained while learning. My ultimate goal as a tutor is to see the “I get it now” looks on my students’ faces when they begin to understand a particular concept.

Hello, I’m Dr. Graham! I’m known to family, friends, and colleagues as either Dr. G or just my first name, Martha. As the daughter and granddaughter of well-established academicians, I was raised in an academic environment where the importance of education and respect for the learning process were greatly valued. I firmly believe that all students deserve an equal opportunity to learn and that learning should also be enjoyable. This is the approach I’ve taken with my teaching, and have found it to be both highly effective and efficient. Furthermore, I strive to uphold three principles that I
believe are critical to successful teaching and fostering a productive student-teacher connection: integrity, personal accountability, and approachability. These principles have aided me in the facilitation of building a strong foundation for addressing individual student needs, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, reinforcing core concepts, and applying subject matter to real-life situations.
I’m a 33-year-old Alabama native that enjoys listening to music, watching my favorite television shows, and reading epic fantasy novels. I relocated to the Greater Atlanta Area in 2012 to attend graduate school at Mercer University and the University of Georgia, and chose to remain in the area after completing my studies to continue with my career in scientific research. My background and expertise are highly concentrated in the biological sciences, particularly in cell and molecular biology, microbiology, and neuropharmacology. Additionally, I also possess high levels of proficiency and competency in anatomy and physiology, chemistry, english composition, literature, and history.
Kennesaw State University – B.S. Mathematics
Hi, I’m Seline! I got my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Kennesaw State University. During my college study, I worked at Science and Math Academic Resource and Tutoring Center at KSU for two and half years. I also worked as a Peer Learning Assistant and Supplemental Instruction(SI) Leader while I studied at KSU, assisting in lecture and computer-based classrooms and holding my own tutoring sessions to a group of students. During this time, I gathered insights into course content and the instructional methods in use. I enjoy working with my students, helping them improve their math grades and the interest towards the subject. I have
I enjoy working with my students, helping them improve their math grades, and helping them find an interest in the subject. I have great patience and can explain concepts in detail. I have developed little “tricks” that has helped me a lot with my math studies, and I love to share my insights with my students who will benefit from these easier techniques for solving problems. I realize the reason that some students have difficulty with a certain subject because their minds tell them that they can’t do it. My strategy and ultimate goal is making my students feel confident in their ability to understand the subject instead of fearing it. Seeing my students succeed is the greatest part of being a tutor.

Hi, I’m Fili. I’ve lived in over four different countries, and I have had the opportunity to tutor both in a civilian and military setting, and to work with a variety of people from all over the world. As a tutor, I strive to address each student’s unique way of learning by carefully identifying his or her learning style and making necessary adjustments towards achieving that crucial theoretical and practical connection. Students can be sure they’ll receive nothing short of my focused and committed effort towards their success because of my passion for what I do. Ultimately, I believe uncovering the purpose behind any type of learning makes all the difference in anyone’s educational experience, which is why effectively communicating the “why” behind every “what” serves as the central piece in my tutoring strategy.

Emory University – B.A., Latin
I began tutoring professionally after entering college, spending one year as a language tutor for Emory University, then pursuing private tutoring. I have worked with students of all ages, from preschool to middle-aged, and in a variety of subjects. I have aided students in preparing for various standardized tests (from the ISEE to the ACT), school subjects, and languages. My students achieve high grades in their school subjects and do very well on standardized tests.
I possess a wealth of knowledge in various areas, but one of the things that I find fun about learning is seeing how subjects connect to the real world. My students find learning and their subject matters a lot more interesting when I start pointing out these connections to them. By nature, I am a very personable and patient and I can work with any kind of student. As such, students really enjoy tutoring sessions with me.

Colorado State University – B.S., Project Management (specialization in infrastructure security, hazard mitigation, and environmental concerns)
I’m an Atlanta native but was born in Germany. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and am currently under review for readmission to Georgia Tech for my master’s degree in environmental engineering. I speak French, and I am working on improving my German and Spanish. My formal tutoring experience began in Savannah, Georgia with a large Brazilian community and the necessity of English proficiency. English as a second language tutoring is always interesting because you have to find a common language somewhere between English and, in this case, Portuguese and lead the student back the way you came. I’m a huge believer in knowing what level my students are and how they process their material. Tutoring will never have a cookie-cutter formula! I’m not there to be a boss or supervisor, nor a friend: I’m a guide, and every trip has its own requirements.

Emory University – B.A., Human Health
Hello, my name is Monique. I am currently a junior at Emory University pursuing a degree in Human Health. My academic background includes a wide range of disciplines, especially in the maths and sciences. I have taught students from all different backgrounds, from being a TA in General Chemistry I at Emory to middle school students. I believe it is important to tutor a student in the best way they learn, whether they are an auditory or visual learner, liked to be asked questions, or are the ones asking the questions. I recognize that each student is different and therefore should be taught in the manner that is most efficient for them. I like to incorporate real world examples in my teachings to help the student better understand abstract concepts.

Spelman College – B.A., Education Studies
Hi, I’m Chloe! I have been tutoring for four years now and it is something I am truly passionate about. I enjoy learning about my students just as much as I enjoy helping them succeed. It is important for me to learn how to adapt to the student’s personal learning style so that I can better serve them as we progress together. I do not usually take the traditional testing approach when gauging where a student is with the material they are trying to either learn or brush up on. However, I like to have my students apply the knowledge they’ve learned by completing diagrams and projects, participating in academic conversations, and teaching the information back to me. I find that when one is able to teach an idea, they’ve really understood the idea. I always encourage my students to figure out different ways of understanding an idea because it challenges the student to think critically and analyze fully what they are learning. I also tend to relate the material to the students hobbies or favorites because I find that it really grabs the student’s attention. I would consider myself a great tutor because when I tutor, it’s not just a lecture, it is an experience. Every session I conduct is different because I understand that every student has different needs and they learn at different paces. Student success and growth is of the most importance to me and my adaptability certainly helps me aid students become successful.
