Description
This award is to award prizes for arc welding projects made by the applicant or a group of applicants. There are several different “divisions” for these awards, depending on the age or skill levels of the applicants.
Eligibility
Projects may fit into one of the following categories: home, recreational or artistic equipment; shop tool, machine or mechanical device; a structure; agricultural equipment; or a repair. Applicants must submit a paper about the creation of the project and be enrolled in a shop class.
Applicants must also be enrolled in HS, adult evening classes, two-year/community college, vocational school, apprentice program, trade school, in-plant training or technical school but may not be college students enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program for some of these awards; see website for correct “division” placement.
Selection Criteria
- The project is judged for its usefulness and practicality
- The paper is judged for formatting, labeling, and clarity
- The paper must clearly address safety and list all personal protective equipment used
- A photo showing all team members must show the use of proper safety practices
